I noticed my points jumped up a bit today, so I had a look at the profile of the points I had. I had a few thoughts. Maybe they're useful. Maybe not.
- Most of the points... in the end... come from likes and ratings. Assuming that people are rating my content because they like it and not because of either nepotism or because I've created 10 users, all "liking" each other, then this is a good thing. On the whole, SCN rewards points for those that have well rated content.
- Some things, e.g. 15 points for reading the Rules of Engagement, seem very high.
- Others, like 30 points for winning a Data Geek competition (hours and hours of work) seem very low. Though you could argue that the points are gained in the associated blogs.
- Yet other things, like 100 points for spending 5 minutes in a "TechEd Live" interview seem high but justified
I'm not sure where I fit in the whole gamification like/hate spectrum but I think that a little tweaking might be in order?
